Yakatabune
originated as a boating activity by aristocrats back to the Heian period (794-1185). It was popular for its elegant culture of playing musical instruments and reciting poems on board.
During the Warring States period, it developed into a pastime for the imperial family, cultural figures, feudal loads, and wealthy merchants. They organized fireworks, cherry-blossom viewings, and tea-ceremony parties as social occasions. It was gradually spread to the general public as chic and elegant pastime and has been evolving into the modern-day
Yakatabune.
